  I recently stayed a night here for work purposes, stephan on reception was welcoming friendly and extremely helpful. The room was very clean, the double bed was comfy, and the shower was perfect. Everything you could need was in the room. I had a very enjoyable stay thank you!!

  Shopping trip with the Floofer

  Great hotel, a little dated and in need of some tlc but the staff make this place fabulous. The wonderful Stephen looked after us and made sure our Goldenretriever was also catered for. Will definitely be back :)

  Suited us down to the ground

  We were travelling on motorcycles and were directed to park under shelter right next to the entrance and under cameras. Check in was quick and simple and the lift made it easy to access the floors. We stayed for four nights. Although the shutters never got raised on the bar the porter and other staff served us well from the reception desk. We stayed in a three bedded room and there was plenty of space. Tea and coffee facilities in the room topped up daily. Shower was a bit sad with hardly any flow but we made the best of it and did not let it bother us. Breakfast was good, hot and plentiful, a nice set up for the day. We used the restaurant one night and enjoyed it. Street has a few places to eat and drink and we tried many. All the bars were checked out and Wetherspoons proved to be the best bet. We spent one night there, two nights at the other bars in the High Street and one night on bottled beer at the Hotel. We ate in the Hotel, the Chippy opposite the hotel, the Indian at the far end of the High Street and Wetherspoons. We roamed off to Portland Bill, Wells, Chedder, Burnham on Sea and The Fleet Air Arm Museum. Had a good laugh. We all would happily stay again.

  Amazing Staycation, Covid-19 Safe

  We loved our stay at the Wessex hotel during COVID-19. The staff were extremely friendly, the bedrooms were well furnished and clean, Shower was very strong, Vegan food options were up there amongst the best (Pancakes for breakfast). Glastonbury and the Tor were very close by which allowed us to come back and 0freshen up during the day. Id also recommend driving to Cheddar gorge which was worth the 30minute drive. Supermarkets were 5 minutes away which came in handy. Overall, we were very satisfied and will be back. Thank you.

  Thanks for ruining yet another fab dance holiday!!!!

  Firstly I would like to say that the staff and food in the Wessex are great - they are 5* in a 1* accommodation which is such a shame. This is the 5th time staying here in recent years and have never had a nice experience. I have had days without running hot water, to a shower that had no cold water (dangerous), but this latest experience took the biscuit. Arrived on the Friday to a freezing cold room but thought nothing of it as the window was open (outside temperature was about 10 degrees). We enjoyed a lovely evening meal and a night of fabulous dancing. Got back to the room just after 10pm and it was still cold, but thought the heating would click in once the temperature dropped a bit (wishful thinking). This never happened and through the night the temperature dropped and which meant absolutely no sleep what so ever as I shivered throughout the night. I measured the temp at around 6am (so not the coldest) and it only measured 16 degrees!!!!!. With no heating on, we reported this to reception, several hours later a heater arrived to help warm the room up. Unfortunately having no sleep and shivering all night made myself very poorly for the rest of the day. Not normally a problem but I had paid for a full day of dancing tuition which we weren't able to participate in, so costing us valued money in these times. We stayed Saturday night and was kept nice and toasty by the provided heater. Funnily enough though the heating in the room came on 30 mins prior to checking out mid-morning on the Sunday. It is impossible to not know that the heating wasn't working in the part of the Hotel that we stayed in - were is the customer care. Please try and sort out the maintenance as this always distracts from the fab staff/food that you have - it is just basics!!!!
